Making Your Home A Zen Den

Comfort in your home and body is a necessary part of feeling nurtured and safe. When you feel that comfort, you get all the feels, all the love and all the zen you need to get through life’s ups and downs. But how can you create this comfort for yourself ? Well, creating a Zen Den at home can do just the trick!

What is a Zen Den?

A Zen Den is a safe space in your home that makes you feel relaxed, safe and open. It is filled with intentionally placed items that bring you peace: like candles, incense, a singing bowl, plants, etc. You can have many small nooks in your home that are Zen Dens. Fill this space with anything that gives you comfort, and feels good to your body.

A Zen Den creates a different energy in your home and in your body. When you have a Zen Den it allows you to have a space to heal, to feel and to process your day to day emotions.

It is a space devoted to building connection with yourself and a reset when things feel hectic. A place that is YOURS, and yours only, to be exactly as you are.

What can you do in a Zen Den?

Make this space somewhere you want to spend time in. You can begin a morning practice involving yoga, meditation, songwriting, sketching – things that help you get in a peaceful state of mind. It can be a place where you can sip tea and read, journal and rest, or use it just ponder about life. This is YOUR zen space!

Why is it so important to have a Zen Den?

“How I take care of myself everyday, and I feel in my space..is a reflection of how much I love myself.”

Having a space to cultivate more connection to yourself, invites a new relationship with self.

“When you connect more to you, you get to know yourself better. Knowing yourself is empowering and allows you to confidently approach life, with more love and ease.”

Taking time to let go of things that take up space in your life and home will help you revitalize the energy of your home. When making a zen den, be sure to declutter the space, and rid yourself of possessions that carry old energy or memories that no longer resonate or are no longer relevant/relate to your present state of being.

Tips for mindfully clearing clutter so you can have your best Zen Den:

Find a nook in your home where you can create this space. This will become a place of restoration and healing. Begin to remove any clutter leaving only what brings you a sense of peace. Fill this space with items that make you happy.

Invite calming energy into this space by playing music, doing movement, meditation, reading and journaling. You can start a daily practice in this space to keep this energy alive. As the days pass, you will notice a shift in your mood more and more every time you enter this space.

Making your home a Zen Den

What if your entire home could feel like this? You would be in a constant state of meditation, love and gratitude. That life is totally possible! It takes time to get there, but with the support of your environment, it becomes easier for the body and mind to drop into that peaceful state.

We are products of our environment. We get nourished or depleted from the spaces we enter and create. This is why having a Zen Den and clearing your home of clutter is so important to your peace of mind and your personal/spiritual growth.
