Embracing Change

We are all living in our own individual human experience that is filled with ebbs and flows into the unknown. Change can feel scary and uncomfortable. But it’s in that discomfort where growth happens! I am no stranger to change. I’ve had to learn to go with the flow of life’s unpredictability. Embracing change is the only way to really get through it with ease and grace.

So what does embracing change really mean?

I’m sure to some of you embracing change sounds silly, crazy or even woo woo. But it’s actually very practical and very achievable. It’s a healthy way to deal with life’s ups and downs. Embracing change gives you comfort in the discomfort. It gives you balance in the chaos and stability in the uncertainty.

What are the effects of stress ?

When life comes at you with full force it can be unforgiving and overwhelming. You are forced to deal with whatever is presented whether you like it or not. HOW you deal with it is another story.

Unexpected change usually creates stress. As you know, stress can be quite dangerous to your wellbeing when it’s a constant in your life. Stress has many effects on the mind, body and emotional states. Here are some effects you should know about. (Take note if any of these effects sound like you on a daily basis).

  • Puts you into fight or flight mode

  • Loss of sleep / trouble sleeping

  • Reactivity (emotional imbalance, snappy, irritable)

  • Avoiding Connection (avoiding loved ones + support from friends/family)

  • Not living in the present moment (caught up in your mind, replaying the story in your head)

  • Anxiety (in a constant anxious state – brought on by the change)

  • Physical pain (notice if this pain collides with the timing of change)

  • Panic Attacks / Nervous breakdowns

Those are the most common ways stress shows up in your life. It can manifest itself in the body as physical pain, and loss of sleep. It can affect your emotions powerfully and cause anxiety, panic attacks and breakdowns; making you more reactive and snappy to people in your life. And it can affect your state of mind, keeping you away from loved ones and out of the present moment.

All this to say that change isn’t easy, for anyone! It brings up all your crap, shakes your sense of security and stability and forces you to do things differently. Pushing you out of your routines and regular lifestyle.

So how do you embrace change ?

With the coming of COVID, all of us to some degree have become experts in the field of change. Change came and is HERE right now for all of us. How you deal with it will determine your relationship to it. You can go kicking and screaming, or you can approach it with love and kindness – even excitement if you dare !

To really flow with life there are two things you need:
1. Be Prepared
2. Maintain The Shifts

  1. In order for a smooth ride, you need to be prepared. Meaning you’ve been doing the leg work of taking your health (physical, mental, emotional) into your own hands. You have practices, routines, safe spaces and people in your life you trust to support you. Meaning you take your wellbeing seriously enough to invest in it and do your part to live your best life.

The truth is, most people don’t do step one. So it’s no surprise that when change comes knocking, all hell breaks loose and life feels like it’s collapsing on itself.

And guess what, if that’s you, you are not alone. So many of us weren’t given the tools to go through life and live it powerfully and fully. So there is no blame or shame here. But you, and only you are responsible for switching it up and choosing a better and brighter outlook and path for your future.

Want to start switching it up so you can live more aligned and break through your old patterns and beliefs? Book a free clarity call with me so we can dive in and work through this together!

  1. Once you are solid with step one and have your systems in place, maintaining the shifts you’ve attained will be important for you.

That just means you are applying the tools and practices that work for you on a daily basis. And continuing to evolve with different practitioners like life coaches, therapists, naturopaths, healers etc. Whatever is required for your growth as you move forward.

Change is the only constant, so learning to accept it and move with it will be empowering (eventually).

Welcoming change takes courage. It takes boldness to invite in the discomfort and tackle it head first. Often change is the very catalyst needed to jump into steps one and two.

Like all things new, remember to be loving and compassionate with yourself. Change isn’t necessarily fun or easy, and neither is doing all the work to get there. But it has invaluable  and impactful results for you and your life. I can promise you that.

If there is anything I’ve learnt this COVID season it is that my health and wellbeing is my weath. I have taken it upon myself to invest in my growth, to invest in my wellbeing and my health. This body and this mind is my vehicle in this life. I finally understand the quote “ your body is a temple.”

Like the sacredness of a temple, treat your body and mind with the utmost love, respect and reverence. Take care of it like it is your most prized possession. Afterall, it really is.

With lots of LOVE,
Luciana
